Geany's main screen

Geany is a text editor using the GTK2 toolkit with basic features of an integrated development environment. It was developed to provide a small and fast IDE, which has only a few dependencies from other packages. It supports many filetypes and has some nice features. For more details see About.

Geany-Plugins 1.25 released!

We are happy to announce a new version of the combined Geany-Plugins release -- right after Geany 1.25 has been released.

There have been a lot of changes, but here are some of the most prominent or noteworthy ones:

  • GProject was renamed to ProjectOrganizer
  • New plugin Automark
  • New plugin GeanyCtags
  • New plugin GitChangeBar
  • New plugin Overview
  • Debugger: Fix crash with GDB 7.7
  • MultiTerm: Fix build with recent Vala versions
  • PairTagHighlighter: Fix clearing previous indicators
  • Scope: Fix building on GNU/Hurd
  • WebHelper: Add support for basic bookmarks

As usual, you can find source tarballs and Windows installer for the new release on plugins.geany.org. MacOSX users can also find several plugins included in Geany's MacOSX DMG.

Geany 1.25 is out!

After another long delay, we are finally happy to announce a new release of Geany!

For a comprehensive list of changes please see Release Notes. A very detailed and complete list of changes can be found in the ChangeLog.

Some highlights:

  • Fix spawning programs on Windows (for real this time!, Dimitar Zhekov).
  • Use native Windows quoting rules for commands on Windows.
  • Fix and improve MacOS X support (Jiří Techet).
  • Show document-related dialogs embedded in the main window ("info bars") (Matthew Brush and Thomas Martitz).
  • Huge tag management performance improvement (auto-completion, calltips, etc.) (Jiří Techet).
  • Update Scintilla to 3.5.6.
  • GTK3 support, while not enabled by default, is now considered stable.
  • Add support for single-line regular expressions.
  • Add filetypes CoffeScript (Mark Dresselhaus), JSON, Zephir.
  • Significantly improved filtypes CSS, Erlang (Beng Tan), Go (Jiří Techet), JavaScript, Make, PowerShell, Txt2tags.
  • Update translations: be, ca, cs, de, el, es, fr, id, it, ja, nl, pl, pt_BR, pt, ru, sl, sr, sv, zh_CN.

We want to thank all developers, translators and everyone who contributed to this release with patches, feedback, bug reports and so on. Thank you!

As usual, all downloads can be found on Releases. But this time you'll also find a MacOS X DMG, thanks to Jiří Techet!

Additionally, to try and avoid another long delay before the next version, we decided to try and embrace a time-based 4 months release schedule. If we can stick to it, next release should come out around November 15.

Geany 1.24.1 is out!

Shortly after 1.24, we release 1.24.1 which fixes missing inclusion of two files in the release tarball, resulting in various small UI issues (see bugs #1037 and #1038). We are sorry for this inconvenience.

Note that only distribution tarballs are affected, neither the Windows installer nor the installations performed from Git clones are.
